Cake & Country

Two birthdays in one weekend is a great excuse to eat cake multiple times; and celebrate!

On Saturday we officially acknowledged Claire’s birth at the Rascal Flatts concert. My first country concert did not disappoint. We started in Jiffy Lube Live’s parking lot for a bit of flash tattoo and cupcake tailgating.

We then made it inside the grassy venue to see Scotty McCreery’s warm up act. Not bad for an American Idol!

Then, before the main event started, a kind event associate offered our group upgraded tickets much closer to the stage! Gladly accepted; we got to witness lead singer Gary LeVox’s glittering pants and microphone up close! The music: amazing! The group jammed out to a thoroughly enjoyable playlist that included all their top songs. Since starting in 2000, the band has sold over 22.5 million albums and delivered 15 #1 singles to the top of the charts! It was impressive.

On Sunday, another special celebration occurred!

Side note: Who wouldn’t want to witness a rainbow on their birthday? What a great sign for the year ahead!

On running: DC’s hot, humid and hazy summer has arrived and I haven’t yet mentally prepared for the extended physical exertion of outside runs. Therefore, this week I enjoyed a few shorter morning jaunts and an after-work treadmill workout. I also finally mapped out a marathon running plan! Because most training plans include 4 or 5 days of running, I’ve customized a schedule that will fit my 3 run per week limit. As aforementioned, I much prefer some sort of cross training, either spin, free weights, or a newfound Chisel class, in place of another dedicated running day. The plan starts the week of July 5th, so I’m just staying generally active until then!
